MEXICO CITY Veteran French cyclist Jeannie Longo broke her own world one-hour record, covering 28.020 miles (45.094km) at the Mexican Olympic sports centercycle track on Thursday.

Longo, 42, surpassed her one-hour record on a conventional bicycle set on Nov. 5 of 27.817 miles (44.767km), also at the Mexico City track.

The cyclist set the mark despite chilly, windy conditions in the high-altitude Mexican capital.

"I'm very happy because all week it was very difficult because of the weather, and I thought I would not be able to achieve" the record, she told reporters after finishing the trial.

Longo also holds the one-hour record on a high technology bicycle, which she set on the same Mexican track on Oct. 26, 1996, covering 29.925 miles (48.159km).
